Charity Auction comm plug
Hey guys, you may have seen me around here before on my old handle,
candyfloss. Just making a quick charity auction comm promo for
trekforchildren, in which I'm offering to write Final Fantasy drabbles/oneshots. So far 100x100 and Plurk FF icons are also being offered here. Feel free to delete if this is too irrelevant to the comm, but I figured you guys might be interested in bidding or taking part. \o/

A charity auction of fandom or original works in aid of Childreach International. The creator (myself, knightess) will be skydiving at the end of this month and trekking the Great Wall of China at the end of summer in aid of the charity. To do so I need to fundraise £2,500 ($4,000) in total.
Childreach is a grassroots charity that protects childrens' rights in developing countries, and promotes their access to health care and education by working in partnership with local communities. This charity is an incredibly worthy cause, so please help in any way you can, whether taking part or spreading the word on your journal/social networking sites/amongst your friends. Thank you!

Wouldn't it be better to give the $4000 to the charity in question instead of spending the money on an expensive trip to another country? I apologize but I don't quite understand how sending someone to trek the Great Wall of China helps the charity in question. Can you explain how it works?

Some of the fundraising total will be spent on travel expenses, but the majority of it will go directly to the charity, just as with a sponsored mountain climb, skydive, or marathon. Ideally, it would be great if all the fundraised money could go towards the charity, but challenges like this give incentive for people to actively take part in fundraising. The fundraising goal is larger accordingly to ensure the majority of money raised does go towards the charity.
Hope that clears up your confusion! Apologies for the lack of clarity.
