Yoshi-P posted on the various official FFXVI channels today to apologize for not having any more news to share this year, but promising the next news drop will come this Spring.
Alas, there's been some delays in development due to COVID-19, but to my ears, this list of tasks?
That, to me, sounds like they are pretty far along in spite of delays.
Someone of Twitter said that the next promised big news drop was supposed to come right before pre-orders open; I don't recall hearing this myself but I could see that happening if the game is as far enough as I think it is.
Anyone else still looking forward to this game?

* Refining combat mechanics
* Fleshing out individual battles
* Putting the finishing touches on cutscenes
* Conducting overall graphical optimization
