I’ll admit I’m not the biggest fan of FFVII. I thought the game was overhyped and found it confusing. That said, i’m looking forward to the remake in hopes that there will be extra content that fleshes the story out more. And being a big FF fan in general, there’s no way I WOULDN’T buy it on release.
I first played it on release (before the real mad hype started) and I think that makes/made a significant difference in how I see VII; my bile is reserved for the groupmind fanon mutations that came later, and especially post-Compliation with the combo of bad retcons and the piles of people who seem to have never played the original game.
For an honest look at VII that shows the story that's actually there, I couldn't recommend Elentor's Let's Play more highly -- it's a screencap LP, so no videos to have to watch.
