Final Fantasy XVI "Ambition" Trailer Drop!

THAT'S RIGHT, the new trailer for FFXVI dropped this morning, and for once I was the last of my friend group to hear of it. Here's the link:

I remain excited about this game, and hope I get the money soon to buy a PS5 so I can play the game at launch. Would love to hear your thoughts on the trailer!

As someone who adores FFXII, my main thought from this trailer is that this feels like an AU of Ivalice. Rosarria, the Deadlands, Dhalmekian Republic (Dalmasca, having removed their royals)... Arcades has clearly not lasted the test of time, not under that name, nor have non-hume races, but wow...

And since I loved FFXII, that makes me excited (but wondering about the timeline.)

Oooooooooooo yes! FFXII is my fav because of the medieval steampunk vibes and I'm very excited by some of the same vibes we've seen in XVI trailers so far. I love this concept even if it's not official timeline stuff!

I believe there was an interview with Yoshi-P (or was it someone else attached to the game?) before FFXVI was announced where they were asked what they wanted to see in the next Final Fantasy and they said "a return to more medieval setting" (paraphrase). I remember being excited about that. While I do love what FFXV did, and especially love the mix of science fiction and fantasy in FFXIV, an honest-to-goodness straight fantasy setting would be great.

This seems to be less steampunk, more medieval but still seems to be somewhat in that vein.

Even if it's not official, there's always fic, right?

The state names did sound reminiscent of FFXII, didn't they? Though whichever one was called the "Grand Duchy" made me think of Jeuno in FFXI.

Yoshi-P (producer of FFXVI, and producer/director of FFXIV) loves callbacks to the earlier games so I wouldn't be surprised if he's taken some influence from FFXII! I enjoyed FFXII myself so wouldn't mind to see some callbacks to it.

I don't know XI, but this is definitely looking more to the medieval/high fantasy side of FFs like FFXII and XIV, so why not XI as well?

It does. 😍 I watched it on my big screen last night and it was gorgeous!

It definitely looked darker on my tablet than on my TV. On my TV I saw a lot more detail, which I think was a combination of bigger screen and better display.

As for how anyone can deduce anything... I have watched the previous trailers in super slow-motion to catch second-by-second detail. Here's the breakdown of the first one. I don't think I'm going to do that for this trailer, as I felt the voice over gave good enough detail of what was happening.
